Wisdom from Solomon, not the Mojo

Here are my thoughts from Ecclesiastes, one of my fave books of the Bible:

  • The stuff I accumulate on earth stays here. “I can’t take it with me–no, I have to leave it to whoever comes after me.”
  • There’s a time to cry and a time to laugh. I’d rather laugh.
  • “It’s better to have a partner than go it alone…and if one falls down, the other helps.”
  • “Two in a bed warm each other.”
  • When I participate in a service, God wants me to enter in and learn. It’s not just about mindlessly offering worship. He wants me to engage.
  • The less I speak, the better.
  • “Hard and honest work earns a good night’s sleep.” For you and your bed warming partner.
  • “Here’s what I’ve decided is the best way to live: Take care of yourself, have a good time, and make the most of whatever job you have for as long as God gives you life.”
  • “Anger boomerangs.”
  • “Don’t always be asking, ‘Where are the good old days?’ Wise people don’t ask questions like that.”
  • “Wisdom is better when it’s paired with money.” People with money are not our enemy.
  • God is doing some things on earth that I may never understand.
  • “Relish life with the spouse you love.” God designed us to be lovers and romantics.
  • “Wise thinking leads to right living.” This suggests I need to be thoughtful and disciplined about my life.
  • “Laughter and bread go together, and wine gives sparkle to life.” God created me to enjoy a meal and company with good friends.
  • “Don’t bad-mouth your leaders, not even under your breath… Little birds drop the crumbs of your gossip far and wide.”
  • I answer to God for everything I do with my life. My time is my greatest resource, and I need to invest it wisely.
