Today Wonderwife and I purchased a dresser and changing table for the nursery as well as a closet organizer for the kid’s stuff. The little camera on top was from me. Hey, I can teach the child something already.

The Mojo Updates
I know you have been waiting and waiting for it. You click the reload button in your browser. Maybe you press F5 to refresh your screen. Or perhaps you have been checking your RSS feed reader while hoping there was a new post from me. Well, huzzah! Here it is. It’s only been 6 days..yeesh!
So I was attempting to update the Mojo network of sites, when I noticed that most of the 3rd party applications (Flickr photo hosting, Windows Live Writer, etc) I use to blog aren’t connecting to my server.
After some research, I found out that these services stopped when WordPress (the blogging platform here) upgarded to version 2.2 recently. Bugger.
So I logged onto my server host and promptly proceeded to upgrade myself to 2.2 for the three blogs I have on there.
POOF!
Techno Mojo disappeared. #$%@*!(@) Not again!
I checked Photo Mojo as well. Thankfully it was still there. It upgraded to 2.2 but the entire template was changed as well as the stylesheet of the theme. Bugger.
Go Mojo was still intact. So what did I do? I waited until Wonderwife finished the meal I prepared for her and casually mentioned: “So I **bleep** up the Mojo network, honey. Can you fix it?”
30 minutes later, Techno Mojo was back and intact. The theme was basic, but the data was there, unlike the last time. Whew.
Photo Mojo’s posts are still there but the site is really wonky. Whew.
So what is the moral of the story here? Just because you CAN upgrade, doesn’t mean you should. Not without Wonderwife.
There you have it. The Mojo has updated…in more ways than one.
So how are you?
This Little Piggy Went “Ouch”
At about 4:30am Wednesday morning, Allie the dog wakes me up to take her outside. We don’t have a fenced-in yard which prevents me from just opening the door, saying “hope everything comes out all right” and close the door behind her on her way in. Oh no, I have to leash her and go with her. So, still asleep/groggy and in my underwear, we walk down the stairs. She must have really needed to go and pulled me down the steps. Aided by the dew, I lost my footing and found it again after my toes crunched into the stair post below. Ouch.
Bruising & swelling were instant. Iced compression was applied and went to work since I couldn’t go back to sleep.
Today, Thursday, I went to work even though the swelling/coloring was worse. I was convinced I should go see the doctor, if for no other reason than to verify there was no breakage. I checked in, stepped on the scale, blood pressure checked and had the foot scanned for damage. Results were instant. No breaks.
I really should write a blog detailing all of the dumbasses encountered so I can add Dr. King to it. Doctor King is a replacement physician because our previous doc took a job at UAB. I had attempted to visit Dr. King for the first time ever on a previous occassion last month but was left in the viewing room for over an hour. Not the waiting room, but the one behind the front desk. No doctor. I can hear him berate an elderly woman in the next room demanding “yes or no” answers. I walked to the desk, was told he is busy. I demanded my co-pay refunded and walked out. 2 days later he calls me and says he has taken on way too many new clients and asks for another shot. Ok, fine. Whatever.
So I gave him that shot today. Dr. King, aka “dumbass”, pulls the same stunt. This time, after waiting 20 minutes in the viewing room, I approached a nurse eating at her station and asked for Dr. King. Very rudely she said there were 6 clients ahead of me that he was attending to and needed to go to lunch as well. !!??!!
I asked for another doctor and of course, he was the only one attending today out of 6. Unbelievable. After a few choice words back & forth about patient care and customer service, I went back up to the front desk and had my co-pay refunded again and was asked if I told Dr. King off and that someone really should. Well, I would have if he ever showed up. I have never met the man and only spoke to him by phone.
The good news is the toe is not broken. The bad news is I have to find another primary care physician. Again. Ouch.
Where’s Mojo?
April was a busy month for me and was quite overwelmingly fun, too. You could even see the the Mojo at 3 big events within the week such as the Art Connection, TechMixer and the IPSA Adobe event. PhotoCamp, 1040 Fest, etc too. I wasn’t alone either because Andre was at the same events I was! No, we didn’t schedule accordingly, we just have similar interests!
<—— At the bottom of the sidebar on the left, you’ll see a widget badge from Upcoming.org that lists some events that I plan on going to. Click on it to add yourself to some cool happenings.
I promised WonderWife and self to slow it down & go into “hibernate” status. Not so fast. The calendar beckons. Missing from the Upcoming badge is Doo-Dah Day, We Pity The Fool and the Regions Charity Classic golf tournament at Ross Bridge on the same weekend.
So if you want to play “Where’s Mojo”, or meetup, shoot me an email or leave a comment. Looking forward to seeing you!
How Much?
What would you do for a million dollars that you would NOT do for ten dollars?
Baby Denbow Update
Today is the day we find out if we are having a he or a she. The boy’s name is already decided on. The girl’s? Not so much. I’m a little bit anxious for various reasons.
- First visit with WonderWife’s doc
- First visit to the hospital
- I get queasy around doctors/hospitals
- What if we can’t tell the baby’s sex?
Stay tuned for details and new 20 week photo!
**UPDATE**
I got to see our baby “In Utero Mojo” for the first time today. The baby is average sized, strong/healthy. Wonderwife is doing fantastic in her first pregnancy. However, we could not determine if we are having a girl or a boy yet. Maybe on May 30 when we go back!
WonderWife Loves Me
My 11th & 16th anniversaries with WonderWife are coming up this weekend. What did I buy her? Nothing. Yet. We had previously agreed not to buy each other anything, but my wife broke this embargo. How do I know this? Because she also can’t keep a secret!
I came home from the TechMixer late last night and she was giddy with anticipation on my reaction to her gifts. Plural. “Open them or I will return them” she says. I called her bluff. She called mine. Damn.
First up is the Nikon Speedlight SB-400, a light, compact attachment to my Nikon D50. This would have been handy on any number of portrait occasions and highly desired. The idea is that the flash swivels up so light “bounces” up and reflects off the ceiling/walls as opposed to the subject’s face. Initial tests were very pleasing. Photos not provided because I was exhausted and looked like ****.
Secondly was a Nikon lens hood that reduces glare/light. Neat!
Thirdly, the ASMP Professional Business Practices In Photography book.
You can tell she really loves/supports me even though I haven’t been as attentive to her during the entire month of April (PhotoCamp, 1040 Fest, Art Connection, IPSA, TechMixer, etc).
Damn.
PhotoCamp Is Here!
Saturday, April 21st @ the Homewood Public Library from 10am to 5PM. This “un-conference” is born out of my fascination with photography and the desire to learn more. I am so looking forward to observing how both professionals and amateur photographers work their magic.
Many thanks to the volunteer organizers who helped me make this event possible. Special thanks to the Birmingham Public Library for sponsoring us as well as providing refreshments. Special thanks to Adobe & Flickr as well.
Watch for my behind the scenes shots on Flickr.
1040 Fest
So I had heard about the tax day soiree from a Catalyst email and decided to head downtown to see what the festivities were all about. The line of cars waiting to hand off their tax forms and hard-earned money were wrapped around several blocks. The postal workers earned their money tonight.
There were several local bands playing and a good time was had by all, even Birmingham’s finest. Next year, I’d suggest stopping by and getting some sort of tax relief! Flickr set is here.
