Bama Q

Being the wandering nomad of a traveler that I am, I always seek out local brews & BBQ. Here’s my choice for best of…

Memphis has the best ribs. Ever. Stop trying because you won’t catch up.

For all around Q, go to Texas because which would you rather have: corn-fed beef or pigs that have been served slopped? Brisket wins out everytime, trust me.

Best sauce(s) would have to go to Kansas City.

If you are in the southeast region of the United States (Carolinas, Georgia, Alabama) and you have a “hankering” for good bar-b-que, keep going. Save your money and your taste buds. You can thank me later.

tr-bbq.gifWhat prompted all of this? The last place in Birmingham that I have tried BBQ. Today was a visit to the Tin Roof BBQ in Pelham, Alabama off of hwy 119. Holy crap, I thought Georgia was bad but this place beat it.

  1. cold, flavor-less ribs
  2. cold, hideous sauce ketchup-flavored water
  3. tough, stringy brisket roast beef
  4. baked beans out of a can and cold
  5. refill of un-sweet tea was actually sweetened

Good atmosphere, great blues music and hickory smoke everywhere but on the food. I ate maybe a sampling of each item but left the joint with a full plate and an empty stomach. The redeeming factors were good cole slaw and Wonderwife’s loaded baked potato. But you don’t go to a “BBQ” restaurant for a potato and cole slaw, you go for the Q, which wasn’t even worthy of the name.

So, I maintain that there is BBQ and then there is Bama-Q. If you ever have the opportunity, pass.

What do you think? What is your fave? Worst?
