Got the heads up from Jeff Keaton and Dimitri Glazkov about the University of Alabama-Birmingham’s scientific expedition to the Antarctica continent. This NSF-funded research studies how organisms utilize chemical compounds to defend themselves from predators, competitors, and organisms that would overgrow or infect them.
UAB was one of the first teams on the ice during the International Polar Year.
The gorgeous website itself was designed by Joseph Huffstutler, a designer at UAB, developed by Dimitri and focuses on interaction, using Flickr photos taken by the expedition as well as YouTube videos as documentaries. The commentary and images are stunning.
