BCS Mess

firstrunthrough

As happy as I am that my Oklahoma Sooners football team is advancing to the Big 12 Championship, there is once again, frustration. OU was in a 3-way tie in the South division with Texas and Texas Tech. Texas had defeated Oklahoma and technically should have broken that tie but because of various polls and computer programs (the BCS), Oklahoma statistically outplayed Texas in the season. This projected OU over Texas and to the conference championship to play Missouri, the Big 12 North champ. If OU wins, they will advance to the National Championship game.

I have always said we need a playoff system. Lose the ridiculous December bowl games featuring mediocre teams and implement a bracket structure with the highest ranked teams and conference champs. Winners advance. College football, as great as it is, may be the only civilized team sport in the world that does not have a playoff system. No, we let computers decide what is best for us.

What a mess. Go Sooners!
