On Friday, a co-worker reminded us of these little things called "sniglets" from the 1980’s HBO series, Not Necessarily The News. A sniglet is defined as "any word that doesn’t appear in the dictionary, but pretends to".
Why he mentioned this out of the blue, I have no idea but while he was speaking, I did a quick search online and found this handy reference guide to sniglets in alphabetical order.
Here a few choice morsels for you to chew on:
110 At The Equator (won’ ten at the ek way’ tawr) – n. Any burning sensation experienced directly below the navel when putting on a pair of jeans straight from the dryer.
Idiot Box – n. The part of the envelope that tells a person where to place the stamp when they can’t quite figure it out for themselves.
Joes of Arc (johz’ uhv ark) – n. Tiny drops of coffee that die on the burner after the pot is removed.
Luposlipaphobia – n. The fear of being pursued by timber wolves around a kitchen table while wearing socks on a newly waxed floor.
Queery n. A question to ascertain one’s sexual orientation.
One of my favorites:
