No, I didn’t get wasted, although at times I sure would have liked it. It started Thursday night when I could not go to sleep. Daphne was sick and fussy. On Friday night I had every intention of going to a party and a sci-fi convention (to photograph the freaks & geeks). Forget it. I was too exhausted. I was so exhausted in fact that I could not sleep until 7:30 AM. I was up twittering with some friends overnight about our severe storms here and Atlanta’s tornado after that.

Any and all plans to clean/organize were lost as well. Who had the energy?

Saturday night and again, no sleep.

was going to mow but the riding mower could not start. I attempted the push mower with the same result. Screw it, I’ll just surf the interwebs.

Tonight, the 3rd and final event for the weekend is the George Thorogood concert at the Alabama Theatre and I am not missing that. I have backstage pass to photograph and I am not going to miss out.

Photos later his week as I need to recover and go back to work. Short work week though because I am flying to Tulsa for my little brother’s wedding. W00t!

When I was growing up, I rocked on the arcade game called Spy Hunter. In this game, the object is to just keep driving and avoid the Bond-like cars, helicopters and boats. A new Pontiac commercial pays homage as seen here. Cool! Now I wonder if they have this game for the Wii…

So this being a Friday, aren’t you glad you don’t have to look at this for another two days? After a long week in a small room with 20 people, 20 laptops and a projector with 75 degree heat, I am out of here, people.

Tonight, I am headed to the Terminal’s first birthday party and OmegaCon. Sunday night I am shooting George Thorogood & the Destroyers and maybe even a couple of groupies while I am backstage. Rock on.

Daphne was slightly jealous that mom & dad play with their laptops and so we had to bring out hers as well. She’ll be writing code shortly, just you wait and see.

the face of discomfort in the doc’s office

Our little bundle of joy was not feeling so joyous yesterday. She’s had a fever off/on for the past 2 days around 99. When I got home from work, she was burning up, her hands/feet were cold and bluish. We visited a pediatrician (after hours) who diagnosed a virus. No flu.

When we got home she was nursed and laid down for a long nap. After waking up she was cool and clammy and in a great mood. Shortly after, she was smiling again, jumping on daddy and pulling the hairs on the dog’s snout.

That is one tough little girl to look a virus down and just say "whatever, man"!

About an inch of snow fell on Trussville overnight and it is sticking. Truly a major event down here in the South. Birminghamsters haven’t seen this much in a loooong time.

Daphne,

You have been a member of this world for 6 months and already, you have been a huge blessing in our lives. For the eleven years your mother and I have been married, you were on our minds. Now that you are here with us, you have enhanced our joy. Watching you grow and develop quickly has been a great surprise.

In one half of a year , you have gained 9 pounds, grown six inches and are right on track with your development. You have decided to change your perspective by standing up as often as you can. When I walk into the room, you turn your head to me and smile as wide as you can. Your curiosity of objects surrounding you increases and I hope this never stops.

Your mother continues to amaze and inspire me and I am grateful that she does not have to work so she can stay at home and teach you how to be a girl. As I watch her with you, I love her even more.

You are my daughter and I love you,

Daddy.

I’ve discovered that I would make an excellent old curmudgeon as I get older. I have just a few more ramblings to unload on you.

  1. Smoker/drivers: use your car’s ashtray and quit littering the streets
  2. When you are parked, please don’t empty your old drinks right where other people step out of their car into it.
  3. Why do female athletic teams have to be called the "Lady Lions" or the "Lady Bulldogs"? Would they not be considered Lionesses? Still bulldogs? What about the "Lady Crimson Tide"? Why not just the Crimson Tide?
  4. The best use of a girl’s team name, an old orphanage in Illinois has been converted into a high school. The team name? The Orphan Annies. Cuteness.
  5. The #$%^@ Birmingham Suzuki Man. This guy is making a fortune off of car sales by acting like a moron and embarrassing the city. I can’t turn the channel fast enough.

I applaud the people who can go on television and lose weight consistently. It is encouraging. I say this right after finishing more than a few nachos.

My father informed me tonight that he cut out sodas and doesn’t miss it. He feels better for it. I mention that as I suck down my 20 oz Diet Dr. Pepper.

Something has to change.

I’m updating myself on Traineo.

Below are a few things I’ve been thinking about but cannot get out of my head to move on.

  1. I really dislike any/all award shows that congratulate themselves
  2. Which is better? A Cylon or a Terminator?
  3. Why do people flip you off after you honk your car horn and swerve to avoid them changing into your lane without notice?
  4. Why do television marketers exist if all they can advertise is a product and a known song from the past with a vague reference to the product?
  5. Let’s lift the Cuban embargo. I want to tour there.
  6. I really dislike any/all rap punks artists rappers that talk about themselves and what they got
  7. Wishing I had more time to shoot photos and learn Photoshop skills
  8. Why do I like sugary snacks so much? Wean off!
  9. My hiking shoes have dust on them but not from any trail. @#$%^@
  10. What kind of father am I?
