Books

Reading is a lifelong habit for me. I enjoy reading for pleasure as well as knowledge. To have access to both old and new knowledge in our hands is one of the greatest gifts we have accomplished together. The list of reading material below is not an exhaustive one but more of a current view into where my head is at and where I want to go next.

2023 Books I’ve Read:

This year I want to meet or exceed 23 books in 2023. This is a list of the books read with the most recent ones shown first along with a rating system.

✩✩✩✩✩ = Loved it!

✩✩✩✩= It was good!

✩✩✩ = It was OK

✩✩ = Do not recommend

✩ = Did not finish

The Strange Library by Haruki Murakami. Weird book, beautiful illustrations but a sad ending that seemed out of place. ✩✩✩✩

The Future Is Analog by David Sax. Boring. Woe is me, and my life in the pandemic. I wanted all digital but now I lament it. Give me a break. This book offers nothing of substance on how to get back to analog life. I skimmed and it was enough for me to not even start to read, let alone finish. ✩

Fairy Tale by Stephen King. You get your money’s worth with King’s novels. This was 1000 pages long and I didn’t think I could finish it in the 21 days allotted borrow time. I did skim a few pages because there was a waiting list of 35 people waiting for me to finish. Average reading time is 4-5 hours a book for me. This one took almost 14. Anyway, it was a great novel and I’m sure it too, will be turned into a movie. ✩✩✩✩✩

Sleepwalk by Dan Chaon. Im not sure how I felt about this book. It was anti-climactic for me. Sleepwalk examines where we’ve been and where we’re going and the connections that bind us, no matter how far we travel to dodge them or how cleverly we hide. ✩✩

Goodbye, Things by Fumio Sasaki. A book on the new Japanese minimalism. A lot of practical tips were underlined and highlighted in this book. Enough for me to get started on discarding some stuff this weekend and keep going. ✩✩✩✩
