Today marks my 2nd anniversary as a Texan and I have mixed feelings about this. We moved here two years ago from Birmingham, Alabama to be closer to our family members here and in Oklahoma. We moved to the promise land where I could relaunch my career and to take advantage of the numerous opportunities here.
I secured a contract job to get us started and looked for a salaried position elsewhere but kept coming up short. The short answer for all of this is simply the economy. Companies in Alabama were feeling this early on and by the time we got to Texas, it could be felt a little here too. One of the first companies I interviewed with was AIG. The same AIG that took billions of government bailout money and ran.In hindsight, I’m still not sure if I should have accepted their offer or not.
I believe with all it’s diversity, money, and spirit that Texas is still one of the best places to be in the country right now. We’ll recover faster than anyone else too as the opportunities will present themselves.
I love Texas because it really is a whole other country. The experiences here are enough to last a lifetime. I have never lived in a place that was so modern, cosmopolitan and forward-thinking. I cannot wait to experience and enjoy to the fullest.
