Groundhog Day Resolution 2026

I don’t do New Year’s resolutions: I’ve tried and they never stuck. Truth be told, I have attempted GHD resolutions a total of thirteen times and they never stuck. 1But this year, this year will be different, I swear!

Attempting new year resolutions in January is optimistic in a way that doesn’t match real life. Everyone is exhausted, and pretending they’re about to become someone else. By mid-month, most of it quietly disappears.

So I start later.

Every year on February 2, I reset. Same day. Same structure. I call it Groundhog Day Resolutions.

I begin on 2/2. I check in once a month on dates that mirror themselves. 3/3. 4/4. 5/5. If something isn’t working, I adjust it. If I slip, I don’t quit. The whole thing runs until 12/12. After that I can choose to relax and enjoy the holidays until 2/2 reset the following year.

It’s not dramatic and that’s why I like it. The framework stays simple. Four areas of opportunity to improve my life and overall make me a better person.

Spiritual

Bible study starting with Ecclesiastes. This book was an eye opener for me in so many ways when I first came across it (and a great mentor.) Prayer. Meditation. A small group of people I can actually check in with. Faith that shows up in real ways.

Physical

The goal is straightforward. 2Lose 20 pounds minimum, would love to drop 30! 30 20 pounds by 12/12. Train regularly. Move more. Recover better. Walk. Swim. Stretch. Sleep. Nutrition in a way that supports the day instead of sabotaging it.

Mental

Reading stays intentional. Twenty-six books this year. Journaling daily. Meditation daily. Spanish becomes something I work at instead of something I talk about. Throw in some Zenbow and Tao too for good measure.

Artful

Twenty-five years of digital photography deserves something finished. I also want to finish continue working on a novel, five short stories, and Explore More. Planning doesn’t count here. Only finished work does.

Groundhog Day Resolutions

I start on 2/2.
I’ll check in on 3/3.
And I’ll keep adjusting as I go until 12/12/26
