Lesson # 309 when working freelance for someone, especially in print media: get a contract. I received a letter today from a now former publication explaining why I haven’t received payment in a year even though they used my images.
Recent changes in the economy have forced us to make a difficult decision. We inform you with regret that we are ceasing operations and will no longer publish a magazine. Blah, blah blah.
I don’t care if you are some schmuck who is new in town and looking for opportunity to get published (like I did when I moved here), get the terms in writing.
That’s all I have to say about that.
